Programme Aim

This is a one-month Summer Research Experience Programme to provide opportunities to outstanding students who are interested to pursue research postgraduate study in Hong Kong to:
 

  1. visit the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) campus and learn the leading research projects and facilities in Department of Physics;
  2. engage in a frontier research project under the supervision of a faculty advisor;
  3. understand the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) and research scholarships offered by HKBU.
  • Outstanding Undergraduate/Master students in Physics or related disciplines who will graduate by summer 2021 or 2022.
  • Students from mainland China and other foreign regions (e.g. India, Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey) are all welcomed.

Selection Criteria:
Decisions will be made based on the following merits:

  • Academic excellence
  • Research ability and potential
  • Leadership ability and potential
  • Communication and interpersonal skills

Faculty members in the Physics Department engage in vigorous research in areas such as optics, metamaterials, photonic materials and devices, organic electronics, nanomaterials, biophysics, etc.

Deadline:

Mainland China Applicants: April 15, 2020
Overseas & Local Applicants: May 1, 2020

The programme is FREE for the participants. The following support is provided by the Department of Physics.

Asian Students: 

  • Reimbursement of economy-class round-trip tickets between home town/university and Hong Kong (up to HK$ 4,000 for participants from Asian regions) 
  • Local living allowances of HK$ 8,500

Non-Asian students: 

  • Reimbursement of economy-class round-trip tickets between home town/university and Hong Kong (up to HK$ 10,000 for participants from non-Asian regions)
  • Local living allowances of HK$ 8,500

Department will help to arrange:

  • Reimbursement of transportation fee and living allowance
  • Training visa for mainland student (or student from region with less than 30 days travel visa in HK)

Successful applicants will be required to arrange their own:

  • Accommodations
  • Entry permit to Hong Kong 
  • Insurance covering the program period
  • Round-trip transportation between home region and Hong Kong (partially supported by Physics Department).
