Training programs

Training programs

  1. The Centre offers nominal financial supports to researchers/students for their research activities while the participating professors provide the supervision and training to researchers in their respective research disciplines. In addition, the Faculty of Science at HKBU offers a training course in Environmental Health and Safety to newly recruited researchers.
  2. Surface and Materials Characterization Laboratory (SML) within the faculty also provides regular technical support to our researchers and postgraduate students. This includes regular materials analysis/characterization training programs and use of the major equipment, including Bruker MultiMode 8 Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and a Multi-technique Surface Analysis System equipped with X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS)/ Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectrometer (UPS).
  3. SML continues to provide research training for undergraduate students and research postgraduate students taking part in advanced materials research. 22 postgraduate students from the Department of Physics and Chemistry were trained in the operation of AFM/SEM/TEM/XRD. Hence, the trained user could design and carry out independent experiment to meet his/her materials characterization needs.
  4. Training on the interpretation of data, obtained AFM/SEM/TEM/UPS/XPS/XRD was given to postgraduate students for studies on crystallographic information, morphological information, chemical analysis, quantitative analysis, work function determination.
