2024 Research Postgraduate Workshop
Successful Completion of the 2024 Research Postgraduate Workshop
The Department of Physics at Hong Kong Baptist University successfully hosted the 2024 Research Postgraduate (RPg) Workshop on 30th August 2024 at OEE901. The event brought together a remarkable group of young researchers, including RPg students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistant professors, who presented and discussed cutting-edge research across fields such as complex systems, biophysics, advanced materials, and condensed matter physics.
The workshop commenced at 9:00 a.m. with opening remarks from Prof. SO Shu Kong, setting the stage for a day filled with insightful presentations. Two oral presentation sessions followed, running throughout the morning and featuring seven talks in total. Session I, chaired by Dr. TIAN Liang, focused on Complex Systems & Biophysics, with speakers presenting on topics such as neural dynamics, molecular dynamics, and protein evolution. Session II, chaired by Dr. TANG Qianyuan, highlighted advancements in Advanced Materials & Condensed Matter Physics, featuring discussions on materials science, organic photodetectors, and non-Hermitian systems. All presenters demonstrated a high level of research quality and delivered engaging presentations.
In addition to the oral sessions, the workshop included a vibrant poster session, where 10 researchers presented a diverse range of projects. Topics covered ranged from brain network analysis and solar cell technology to medical AI models and photodetector research. The poster session offered participants the opportunity for discussions and idea exchanges.
In the afternoon, the workshop concluded with the Best Paper Awards ceremony, which recognized the exceptional presentations of two participants, evaluated on the basis of research quality, presentation skills, and their ability to engage the audience and effectively communicate their findings. After a thorough evaluation by the panel (comprising Prof. SO Shu Kong, Dr. ZENG Xiangze, Dr. WANG Shu-Jen, and Dr. TANG Qianyuan) the Best Oral Presentation Award was presented to Ms. FU Ruiqi for her outstanding research design and delivery. The Best Poster Presentation Award was awarded to Mr. CHEN Sida for his impressive work on bridging individual differences to task performance through brain dynamics analysis. Both awardees received their certificates from Prof. SO during the ceremony.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for the young researchers to present their work, engage in knowledge exchanges and further their academic journeys. By encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and the sharing of diverse perspectives, the event facilitated the development of both research and communication skills. The collaborative atmosphere and insightful discussions provided fertile ground for future academic connections and intellectual growth.
