Professor Shancheng Wang Awarded Environment and Conservation Fund to Develop Waste‑Based Sustainable Building Materials

Professor Shancheng Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, has been awarded HK$500,000 under the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) 2025/26 for the project entitled “Environment and Conservation Fund-Putrescible waste-derived building thermal management film”. This achievement highlights the Department’s sustained contributions to advanced materials research and to addressing global energy challenges.
To mitigate the double challenge of high thermal management energy consumption and low putrescible waste reuse in Hong Kong, Professor Wang’s team aims to develop a putrescible food and yard waste-based thermal management film to reduce the air-conditioning energy consumption of buildings and facilitate the reuse of putrescible waste. This new design is expected to have a lowered carbon footprint while maintaining energy-saving potential.
Professor Wang focuses his research on materials physics, functional materials and sustainability. His research findings have been published in leading international journals, including Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Joule, and ACS Nano etc.
