9th International Conference on Cognitive Neurodynamics (ICCN) on 7 - 10 Dec, 2024
The Department of Physics hosted the 9th International Conference on Cognitive Neurodynamics (ICCN 2024) from 7 to 10 December on campus, bringing together approximately 180 leading scientists and researchers worldwide for intensive scientific exchange and collaboration in brain science research.
In the opening ceremony on 8 December, Professor Aiping Lyu, Vice-President (Research and Development), emphasised how the conference theme perfectly aligns with HKBU’s focus on transdisciplinary research, where physics plays a vital role. “Our strategic initiatives in health and drug discovery, creative media/practice, humanities and cultures, and data analytics and AI all converge in cognitive neurodynamics,” he said.
Professor Michael Ng Kwok-Po, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor So Shu-kong, Head of the Department Physics, emphasised the commitment of the Faculty and the Departments to interdisciplinary research excellence, particularly in areas of biological complex systems and AI for sciences. Professor Zhou Changsong, Chair Professor of the Department of Physics and Director of the Life Science Imaging Centre, was the Chair of ICCN 2024.
Cognitive neurodynamics is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles from cognitive science, neuroscience, and dynamical systems theory to study how cognitive processes are represented and processed in the brain. ICCN 2024 featured plenary invited talks from more than 20 global renowned experts and multiple parallel sessions exploring frontier areas in cognitive neurodynamics and neuroscience. ICCN 2024 received generous support from HKBU, the Croucher Foundation, the Life Science Imaging Centre, the Institute of Computational and Theoretical Studies, and the Centre for Nonlinear Studies.
