From a laboratory curiosity to the flexible, foldable displays in your hands today!

The HKBU Department of Physics, in partnership with the Research Office, recently hosted a distinguished lecture titled “Forty Years Journey of OLEDs: From Laboratory Curiosity to Foldable Phone Displays” by Professor Franky So from North Carolina State University.

A respected scholar originally from Hong Kong, Professor So took us through the 40-year evolution of Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technology. He shared crucial insights into overcoming early stability hurdles through decades of persistent research and interdisciplinary innovation, turning organic materials into an energy-efficient pillar of modern visual technology. Beyond conventional displays, he also highlighted his recent work on flexible infrared-to-visible up-conversion imaging devices for biomedical and computer vision applications.

We thank Professor So for inspiring our community and fostering global scientific exchange!
