HKBU Physicist Professor Furong ZHU Achieves Excellence Award in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition 2023
Professor Furong ZHU, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) of the Faculty of Science and Professor of Department of Physics of HKBU, has been awarded the Excellence Award in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition 2023 for his patented invention titled “Traceable Fruit Quality Detection Solution: Cloud-based big data for fruit quality monitoring & authentication”. The invention patent was led by Professor Zhu and supported by a project team consisting of master’s and doctoral students involved in research. Professor Zhu was also interviewed by Guangzhou TV at the ceremony.
With the theme “Strengthening high-value patent portfolio layout, empowering high-quality development of manufacturing industry”, the awards ceremony took place on January 9, 2024. The Competition aims at identifying high-value patents with leading technologies, promoting the development of effective strategies for nurturing high-value patents, and fostering the advancement of a high value-added knowledge economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. A total of 809 patented inventions qualified for the first round of the Competition after the preliminary review. The final round, held in mid-December, involved roadshows, question and answer sessions, and evaluations by a judging panel to determine the winners.
