Immersed in the Power of Green Innovation: A Visit to Hong Kong's Waste-to-Energy Pioneer — ASB Biodiesel

On 20 March 2026, a group of 29 students from the MSc in Green Technology (Energy) programme embarked on a rewarding visit to  “ASB-Biodiesel (Hong Kong) Limited” (ASB Biodiesel), a leading green energy enterprise in Hong Kong. The visit deepened students' understanding of the crucial role that green energy plays in building a sustainable future.

The visit began with a briefing session, where students gained insights into ASB Biodiesel’s development history and corporate culture. ASB Biodiesel is renowned for producing biodiesel that is 100% repurposed from waste oil, helping reduce pollution while providing a clean, renewable source of energy. Under the guidance of professional staff, our students then put on safety helmets and joined an on-site factory tour, witnessing how used cooking oil undergoes treatment and refining before being converted into high-quality, eco-friendly biodiesel.

To broaden students’ horizons and expand their professional networks, our Department regularly organizes field trips and site visits for students in the MSc in Green Technology (Energy) programme. These experiences allow students to engage directly with the core processes of the waste to energy sector and expand their perspectives on green energy innovation and sustainable development.
