On 4 February 2026, the Department of Physics organised its second visit to BYD, bringing 18 students from the BSc Green Energy and Smart Technology (GEST) and MSc Green Technology in Energy (GTE) programmes to the company’s headquarters in Shenzhen. The tour provided students with an in‑depth look at how China’s EV giant is shaping the future of sustainable mobility.

The tour began at BYD’s advanced exhibition hall, where students were introduced to the company’s corporate culture and its series of breakthrough innovations in new energy vehicle technology. After that it was followed by a demonstration of the renowned nail penetration test, which validates the safety and reliability of BYD’s batteries, particularly their blade battery technology. Students then proceeded to observe the “Four Core Manufacturing Processes”—stamping, welding, painting, and assembly, gaining first‑hand exposure to the company’s high level of automation and engineering accuracy. The visit concluded with an interactive seminar and recruitment session, offering students direct engagement with industry professionals.
