Prof. Qian-Yuan Tang Publishes News & Views in Nature Physics
Bringing New Perspectives on Protein Mechanics and AI

j

Prof. Qian-Yuan Tang from the Department of Physics at Hong Kong Baptist University has published an invited News & Views article in Nature Physics, a top-tier journal known for highlighting significant advances in physical science. This invitation is a recognition of Prof. Tang’s research contributions and academic standing in the international community.

In this article, Prof. Tang discusses an exciting new study by Dr. Eyal Weinreb and colleagues, which shows how proteins—nature’s tiny machines—use internal mechanical forces to carry out their functions. By combining cutting-edge tools such as AlphaFold (an AI system that predicts protein structure), mechanical modeling, and nanoscale experiments, the study identifies key regions in proteins where small mutations can have big effects on their movement and activity. Prof. Tang explains how this approach not only deepens our understanding of how proteins work, but also points to new possibilities for using AI and physics together to guide protein engineering and biomedical research.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Tang on this prestigious publication, which brings fresh insights to the scientific community and showcases how physics and AI are helping to decode the mechanics of life.
