School Talk: Exploring How Building Materials Stay "Cool in Summer, Warm in Winter"

On March 6, the Physics Department visited Heep Woo College, where Professor Shancheng Wang delivered an engaging and insightful lecture to more than 50 students on "Innovations in Building Materials That Stay Cool in Summer and Warm in Winter." The session introduced students to the latest applications of advanced materials in everyday life and sustainable development.

Professor Wang began by discussing the unique climatic characteristics of Hong Kong, gradually guiding students to understand the fundamental concepts of how buildings gain and lose energy. He then presented real-world case studies, real smart window prototypes, and recent research findings, showcasing how cutting-edge, energy‑efficient building materials can be applied in daily life.

Through this outreach activity, the Physics Department brought the latest research in sustainable building materials directly to middle school students, broadening their horizons and offering them new pathways to explore the possibilities of smart technology and sustainable development.
