Seminar: Jordan’s Solar Surge, Policy Shifts and Technology Innovations

On July 26, 2025, the Department of Physics collaborated with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Macau Chapter to co-organize a seminar at the Academic and Administration Building (AAB708) in HKBU campus. The seminar featured a talk by Mr. Samer Adnan Zawaydeh, the former President of AEE in 2020. He shared his extensive experience working on energy and environmental projects, presenting on the topic “Jordan’s Solar Surge: Policy Shifts and Technological Innovations.”

The seminar brought together diverse participants, including faculty members in Department of Physics, physics students who joined energy management internship at ISPL Consulting Limited, alumni, and professionals from Hong Kong’s energy and engineering industry.

In this session, Mr. Samer Adnan Zawaydeh explored the recent development in Jordan’s renewable energy sector, highlighting policy reforms and  cutting-edge technological advancements driving the country’s solar energy expansion.

Meanwhile, Mr. Samer Adnan Zawaydeh shared his extensive experience working with government agencies, developers, and international organizations on energy and environmental projects. He has contributed to national studies on e-mobility, smart grids, and low-carbon strategies, and has been instrumental in developing over 250 solar PV projects across Jordan.

At the end of the seminar, a lively Q&A session and networking break allowed attendees to discuss applications for Hong Kong’s energy landscape. By introducing global and local trends, new local regulations and future opportunities in Jordan, the seminar provided a valuable insight into Jordan’s evolving energy landscape and the future of solar power in the region.
