Green Energy Science Students Attended World Energy Engineering Congress 2017

Abstract

Kong Man Yiu

The World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC) is the largest energy event in the world and I was glad to be given the opportunity to attend it. The WEEC 2017 was held in the Georgia World Congress Center which is in Atlanta. It was a great experience for me to learn and explore the knowledge beyond the book.

WEEC is one of the energy event held by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). We can attend the talks and visit the technology expo in the congress. The talked covered different energy topics such as energy services, energy management, and emerging energy trends etc. I learned a lot from the case study and ideas through the talks. For example, we can make use of landfill to make landfill solar and use D.C circuit in the city. The talks provided different possible ways for better energy management and energy saving. Although it is just the case for the USA, it can be a valuable reference for Hong Kong. Besides, the exhibition showed a lot of latest technology. It was interesting and greatly broadened my horizon. The exhibitors were nice and showed their products to us like smart lighting products.

There were much more things that I experienced such as the student luncheon. In this part, international students were invited to have lunch together. It is great because we can have a conversation with each other. This lets us know more about other city or country.

In my university study, I am more interested in applied physics than in green energy science. Through this wonderful congress, however, my interest in the green energy has been raised. Therefore, I am very thankful to my department and AEE for giving me the opportunity to attend the congress. I gained an unforgettable experience and this would be helpful in choosing my future career path.
