Department of Physics Welcomes 11 Outstanding Students to Summer Research Experience Programme 2025

On 22 July 2025, the Department of Physics at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) welcomed participants of its Summer Research Experience Programme 2025 with an official gathering and briefing session.

Marking the cohort's first formal group event, the "Briefing on RPg Admission and Study at HKBU" brought together 11 outstanding students arriving throughout July for this intensive one-month research immersion. Faculty members including Prof. Changsong Zhou, Prof. Shancheng Wang and Prof. Qianyuan Tang were present to greet the students.

“The Summer Research Experience Programme is an annual event that offers the talented students a significant opportunity to experience HKBU's research strengths firsthand as they consider future postgraduate studies in Hong Kong,” said Prof. Changsong Zhou, Chair Professor of Department of Physics of HKBU and Director of the Life Science Imaging Centre, “The department looks forward to a productive month of research and collaboration.”

Prof. Qianyuan Tang, Assistant Professor of Department of Physics at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) shared essential information about the Department of Physics and academic life at HKBU, while providing detailed insights into the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), other HKBU research fellowships, and the RPg admission procedure.

Following the presentation, light refreshments facilitated informal networking. A key highlight emerged during lively discussions where visiting and current RPg students exchanged experiences covering both campus life and research topics. This mutual sharing offered valuable peer perspectives on academic and personal dimensions of the department.

During the one-month period, the visiting students will reside in Hong Kong, working directly under the supervision of professors from HKBU's Physics Department. 

Wanqing Yang from Wenzhou University and Wenzhou Institute, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, pursuing a degree in physics has always known she wanted to work in AI for biophysics. “This Summer Research Experience Programme offer an incredible opportunity for me engaging in frontier research through hands-on work on cutting-edge projects.” Said Wanqing. “Also, working and communicating with people from different backgrounds and majors made the experience even more valuable.”
